OUGD504 Research into Similar Artists' Websites (Studio Brief Four)

The Black Keys

The Black Keys are an American rock duo formed in Akron, Ohio, in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. Their current website uses geometric shapes (as does CryBabyCry) to draw attention to the menu bar. There are three colours used, which are cyan, magenta and grey. The limitation of three colours is successful as it means the website is recognisable, memorable and consistent through-out. The website also has the option to listen to The Black Keys' latest tracks, which is an effective tool as it means the user would stay on the page, instead of being directed to a different website.

Nancy Sinatra

Nancy Sinatra is an American singer and actress. She is the daughter of the late singer/actor Frank Sinatra and is widely known for her 1966 signature hit 'These Boots Are Made for Walkin''. The current website is heavily focused on a blog, however there are clear links to other pages, such as news and media. The whole aesthetic of the website is unsuccessful as it doesn't represent Nancy Sinatra at all, as it looks very tacky and Nancy Sinatra is considered quite a classy person. The colour scheme of the website is also very odd, as at first thought when you think of Nancy Sinatra, you think of the colours yellow, red and blue.

As I did for Grimes, I am going to look at bands that are similar to CryBabyCry on Spotify. The bands that came up were: Iron Cross, Routineers, Untouchables, UX Vileheads, Square The Circle, Jeff Nelson and Quattro. A lot of these artists don't have websites for their band, as they are probably local bands and not very famous.

Untouchables

The website for Untouchables is quite successful, as it seems like quite an old-style band and the website is in a similar style. I think the background is too black and it makes it quite hurtful to the eyes to look at for a long time.

UX Vileheads

This is the website for UX Vileheads. It's a very unsuccessful as it's difficult to navigate and it's not designed very well as it's quite ugly. The colour scheme isn't very successful as there are too many colours used and the album artwork doesn't fit with the colour scheme of the website, which in my eyes, makes it unsuccessful.

Jeff Nelson

This is the website for Jeff Nelson. I think the website is very successful. It's clean and ordered and very easy to navigate. The photography used is also very high quality which adds to the successful nature. Personally, I'm not too fond of the typeface used.
